The »Pierre La Lune« is a very dense and durable natural polishing stone that offers a unique fine quality, e.g. for razors and kitchen knives. During the polishing process, a soft, violet-coloured abrasive paste quickly forms, which produces an exceptionally even surface on your blade. The result is a good balance between oustanding sharpness and a noticeable smoothness when shaving. A slurry stone is included, for cleaning or to achieve an even finer finish. Simply moisten the stone lightly with a little water. We don’t recommend permanently storing the stone in water.
Tips: Thanks to its unique mineral composition, the »Pierre La Lune« can be used directly after sharpening with 1000 grit, without any further intermediate steps.
For an even shinier result, you can use the polishing stone with honing oil or camellia oil. Once finished, thoroughly clean the stone with washing-up liquid, leaving it ready to be used again with water.
Pierre La Lune
For a long period from around 1850 until the 1980s, the »Pierre La Lune« was known amongst experts as a highly valued polishing stone. A young stonemason discovered the already quarried material in the quarry of Fumay in the French Ardennes. The special reddish-purple slate inspired him to bring the famous polishing stones back onto the market. Today, these high-quality polishing stones are made with sustainability in mind, using traditional methods and precision craftsmanship. Each stone is carefully selected to ensure superior quality and exceptional results.
The phyllite slate was formed on the seabed some 345-400 million years ago through the natural compaction of fine-grained sedimentary rock. Composed of quartz, chlorite and sericite (muscovite), phyllite has a smooth, lamellar texture that gives »La Lune« its unique fine quality.
