The family business was founded in 1978 under the label »Field Sports Products« by John and Margaret Smith, on the first floor of their house in Scarborough. The Smith family started with the idea of producing robust handmade bags and cases for hunting and fishing. When daughter Jackie and son-in-law Allistair Croot took over the business in 2004, they changed nothing about it, except for the name. Today, the company »Croots« has become a worldwide byword for British craftsmanship and the production of high-quality and robust bags. Croots managed to be granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment of the United Kingdom within a very short time and remains so to this day. Today, the brand is known for its elegant city, sports and leisure bags that meet the highest standards of quality, design and functionality. The bags are designed and manufactured at the company's site in Malton, North Yorkshire (UK), which is the gateway to the beautiful hunting grounds of the North York Moors.
