The company was founded in Leicestershire in 1930 under the name »Shepshed Footwear Co. Ltd«. In 1943, the company name was changed to »Scott Nichol«, the family’s name that is still used today. With decades of experience in the wool trade, the Scott Nichol family knew the benefits of Scottish wool. It was the first manufacturer to blend natural fibres with synthetic fibres, which significantly increased durability and completely revolutionised the industry. This is a process that has now been adopted by all manufacturers. In 1947, they became established as a leading quality manufacturer and as »The Crest for Quality in Men's Handmade Socks«. The company remained in family hands until 2006, when they were taken over by the premium manufacturer Pantherella. Since then, the rustic Scott Nichol socks have been a staple of the fine Pantherella range. Today, the socks are made at premium manufacturer Pantherella's site in Leicester, located in the heart of England, and thus meet the highest standards for the »World's finest sockmakers«. This applies from the selected raw material, where only wool from the first shearing is used, to the final hand finish. For the Scott Nichol collection with its traditional, earthy patterns, a consistently higher yarn count is chosen than for the finer Pantherella socks. This results in a voluminous, woolly feel that is recommended for a cultivated countryside style with sturdy footwear.
