The unlined »Paul« mackintosh is a durable, warm and comfortable coat made of lightweight loden. The loden fabric is made by Austrian loden manufacturer Steiner. It requires up to 40 elaborate steps to produce loden fabric from natural new wool. The most important process in loden production is fulling. This technique compacts the wool fabric and creates a natural weather protection: the material is warm, windproof, water-repellent and breathable. The coat is unlined and can therefore be reduced to a small pack size, making it ideal for hiking tours, hunting and all other outdoor activities. Everything that causes unnecessary weight or noise has been removed from the »Paul« raincoat. It is equipped with two side pockets and an inside pocket. The coat is closed by a concealed press stud placket. An integrated drawstring in the hood provides extra protection in wind and weather. Finely accentuated trims of green loden, yarn-wrapped ribbons and cut edges skilfully underline the high-quality workmanship. The coat is suitable for both women and men.

Philipp and Aloisia Stiegler founded the loden mill in Mandling (Germany) in 1888. In 1910, the enthusiastic mountain guide Franz Steiner took over the mill from his uncle Zacharias. One year earlier, he and his brother Irg had been the first to climb the notorious Dachstein south face, a wall over 850 metres high on the southern slope of the Dachstein massif towards Ramsau. The »Steiner Route« named after them is still considered one of the most demanding mountain tours in the Alps. The Steiner family have always been pioneers when it comes to technology. In the mid-1920s Franz Steiner built an electricity plant in Mandling to generate his own electricity. His son Willi Steiner Sr. built a state-of-the-art factory building in 1945 and expanded the manufactory into a full-scale operation. In what is now the 4th generation, Herbert and Johannes Steiner have now taken over the management of the company.
